2nd Player Support by Calgary Leads to Zone Exit

https://vimeo.com/901859934

Here is another example of a defenseman on a puck retrieval taking a hit to allow the 2nd player with close support to easily win the puck. In this clip the close 2nd player support leads to an easy zone exit for Calgary.

What to Watch

  • CGY D sprints back to puck in a breakout retrieval scenario
  • With a forechecker on his back the Calgary defender uses his hips and feet to provide some deception before bumping the puck to space
  • Calgary wins the loose puck because their 2nd player is supporting closer that the opponent's 2nd player
  • Calgary is able to exit the zone cleanly
