Punch Jams are a great way to create space. When done well it causes the defender to expect a cutback as you will see in this clip. This is a great skill to work on with young players and add this skill to their toolbox.

What to Watch

As the puck carrier comes up the wall with the defender on his hip he fakes the cutback.
He uses his outside edge of the left skate and inside edge of the right skate and gets the shoulders and hips pointing towards the cutback.
He quickly releases out of the cutback.
Look how much space and separation is created when the defender completely bites on the cutback.
