Leddy Cuts Net To Evade Forchecker

https://vimeo.com/864056000

Using the net to evade pressure is a great concept for young defense to work on. In this clip Nick Leddy of the New York Islanders shows how to completely nullify the forechecking pressure by using the net.

What to Watch

  • On breakout retrieval NYI defender Nick Leddy uses a shoulder check to scan for forechecking pressure
  • He then slows his speed to bait the pressure behind the net
  • Once the forechecker takes the bait Leddy cuts tight to the net and escapes out the weakside leaving the pressure behind and creating a controlled exit
