Brunner Catch And Shoot

Get Full Access

The Brunner Catch and Shoot drill is a simple, yet effective drill that helps players practice shooting quickly after they receive a pass in the offensive zone.

Setup

  • Players take off towards the net from the blue line on their strong side (right shot on right side, left on left side)
  • The player receives a pass from another player in the opposite line.
  • Without breaking stride, the players catch and shoot without stickhandling.

Coaching Points

  • Players should keep their stick on the ice to let their teammate know where they would like the pass.
  • Players should practice underhandling the puck and shooting quickly after a pass.

Variations

  • Coaches can set this up as a station, or half-ice.
  • Coaches can have players receive pucks on both their strong sides & weak sides. Players on receiving pucks on their backhand can practice the two-touch shot.
