Hard Gap in Neutral Zone by Islanders on 2 vs 2

https://vimeo.com/882961727

Tight gaps in the neutral zone are a key defensive concept for young players to understand. It is usually tough to teach because many players want to play to sag back because it is safer. However, a tight gap makes it tough on the offensive players and can lead to dump ins, turnover, and off-sides.

What to Watch

  • The New York Islanders D squeeze together in the middle of the ice to control the inside and allow trackers to come back
  • They have great aggressive sticks in front and challenge the puck carrier at the blue line killing the rush & forcing a turnover
