Grzelcyk Shows Deception on the Breakout with Feet

https://vimeo.com/857463437?share=copy

Working on ways to show deception or "false information" when retrieving pucks is a great skill to work on.

What to Watch

  • during a breakout retrieval Grzelcyk sprints back to puck under pressure from the Islander forechecker
  • after multiple shoulder checks Grzelcyk sets up to make it look like he will collect the puck off the wall & continue behind the net to the opposite side of the ice
  • he does this with the positioning of his feet & other body language to sell his action
  • as the puck arrives Grzelcyk quickly flips his feet & reverses back in the opposite direction, losing his forechecking pressure & is able to create space leading to a successful breakout
