Foligno Beats the Defender Off the Wall to the Front of the Net

https://vimeo.com/856413492?share=copy

A great mind set to have for forwards on the offensive zone is to beat their opponent to the front of the net. Especially off the wall away from the puck. It will allow the player to establish position and have the advantage. In this clip Foligno shows us a great example.

What to Watch

  • Foligno anticipates the wall battle being won by his teammates.
  • After he is checked against the wall he makes sure to get off the wall and gain position all the way back to the net.
  • He established perfect position right in front of the goalie's eyes.
  • He stays strong and hold his ground when the defender tries to move him out of the way, but this really just causes more traffic for the goalie.
