Shot blocking has become so good in today's game that simply getting pucks on net from the point can be considered an accomplishment. One move that helps defenders get piucks on net is the one Ekholm demonstrates in this clip.

What to Watch

He is left handed and walks the blue line from the left side.
He holds the puck in a position where he could release a shot at anytime.
Once the defender bites he uses his right skate to stop and his backhand to stop the puck.
He pushes off the right skate and pulls the puck into shooting position in one motion just enough to open up space to shoot the puck.
The shot is nothing special but he makes sure to hit the net, which causes all sort of problems for the Carolina goalie and defenders.
