Creating space on a 2 on 2 rush with a switch and a delay by Sabres

https://vimeo.com/871196591

Using a simple switch and a delay on this zone entry allows these Buffalo Sabres forwards to create time and space even when they are out numbered.

What to Watch

  • When entering the zone the Sabres foward custs sharply to the midddle, this gets the defense backed up to the top of the circles.
  • The player without the puck goes towards the puck carrier for close support.
  • Using the switch creates a little confusion for the defenders and grants the new puck carrier with time and space.
  • The new puck carrier uses a delay to gain more time and space while his teammates to get into the zone.

Additional Notes:

  • Watch how puck carrier underhandles the puck on the delay.
  • As they escape to their backhand side they get the puck on their forehand and surround the puck.
  • This allows them to make a play quickly on their forehand if it is available.
