Backcheck by Avalanche Forces Dump and Easy Retrieval

https://vimeo.com/858175836

Knowing how to backcheck and having a strategy is just as important as having the work habits to skate hard to the defensive side of the puck. In this clip hard work and good strategy lead to a turnover.

What to Watch

  • Good F3 positioning allows F3 to get pack on defense quickly when the puck is turned over.
  • The moment the Panthers gain possession F3 transitions to defense and takes three hard strides to get on the defensive side of the puck.
  • He uses the dots to isolate the puck carrier and force him into the defense.
  • The defense is able to play a tight gap knowing he has support.
  • When the puck is chipped into the zone the backchecker can be the first one to the puck.
