NCAA Recruiting Timeline

College Hockey Coaches Perspective:

90% of a recruiter’s job is done before they even get into the rink to watch you play. College coaches utilize a network of trusted sources to gain information.

FAQ’s to coaches from College Hockey Scouts

  • Character
  • Family
  • Academics
  • Hockey Ability

ACADEMICS ARE SO IMPORTANT

It can only open more doors for you. It does not matter how good you are -  if your grades are not there you won't be able to play there. Better grades = more opportunities.

Evaluating On-Ice Talent: Universal skills sought

  • Hockey Sense/Skill
  • Competitiveness
  • Coachability

Do Your Own Research:

  • Does the school have an academic major you’re interested in
  • Does the hockey program have what you’re looking for...crowd, tradition, advancement of players to pro hockey, etc…
  • Does the school have more commitments than spots on their roster? Do they have a lot of de-commitments
