Advisors

  1. What is an Advisor ?
  2. How to choose the right one, if you want one for your family?
  3. Is it necessary to have one ?

What is an Advisor:

NHLPA Certified Agent

  • Negotiate contracts for pros
  • They get paid once the player does
  • DO NOT accept gifts

Family Advisor

  • Advise on non-professional hockey
  • Can be paid for services
  • DO NOT accept gifts

What do they do:

  1. They should be helping you to navigate the process of high level hockey (junior, college, etc)
  2. They should be able to provide feedback on your actual play
  3. They should hold trust within the industry.

How to Choose the right one:

There are some advisors who are just trying to make $$$. Advisors should...

  • Be honest in feedback of play, performance etc.
  • Be available and easy to get a hold for help and advice.
  • Have a good track record of moving players on to multiple teams and leagues - don’t feel wrong to ask for references or specifics.
  • Incorporate some sort of developmental aspect for their services

Do You Need an Advisor?

Short answer, no. Your play should be doing the talking for you. On the other hand, there are some situations where an advisor can help and destress the process for you and your family. Just do your research!
