When executed well this D-Zone faceoff play can create catch the opponent off guard and create scoring chances. The Golden Knights execute it to perfection in this clip. Take note the each player has a specific job.

What to Watch

• It starts with a typical D-Zone faceoff alignment, right D on the board side hash marks, right wing has inside position on net side hash marks, left wing is outside position on hash marks, and left D is behind the right winger.
• Th center can win faceoff towards the net to the left D, or the right D can bump it to them.
• In this case the, the faceoff is on the right dot so the left D retrieves the puck and as they go around the net they are on their forehand.
• The right wing block out the other forward to prevent them putting pressure on the left D
• The left wing skates up ice to back up the opponents D then turn back towards the wall to expect the long rim pass
• The left wingers job is to win the battle against the D along the wall in the neutral zone.
• The right wing supports the left winger in the neutral zone or on the rush.
