Palmieri Puck Protection vs Hurricanes

https://vimeo.com/842624374

Good puck protection is a collection of many different types of skill development. It includes good skating, edges, reach, under handling, deception, and agility. In this clip Palmieri displays a lot of these skills.

What to Watch

  • To create initial time and space he really uses deception by getting his toes pointing one way, then using both inside and outside edges to make a sharp cutback towards the goal line.
  • He also rotates his upper body quickly towards the direction he wants to go.
  • As he goes behind the net he uses a long reach to keep the puck away from the defenders stick.
  • He also uses the pressure of the defender to load his inside edge and help him accelerate out of the turn.
