Denis Savard Joins the Ice Hockey Systems Team

Ice Hockey Systems is proud to announce that Hall of Famer and former NHL coach Denis Savard has joined the IHS team. As the newest partner at IHS, Denis will be a frequent contributor to the site and will share his playing and coaching experiences in a series of videos and posts that will be available to all members of Ice Hockey Systems. The videos will include Savy on his whiteboard where he will explain his detailed systems, unique coaching philosophies and will be sharing some of his favorite hockey drills. The videos are expected to start this November, with new segments being released each month. Denis will also be doing a few Q&A segments with members of Ice Hockey Systems that will allow them to ask specific questions to the former NHL coach.

The Hall of Famer is eager to get started “I’m very excited to join the Ice Hockey Systems team. Coaching hockey is my passion and I look forward to sharing my experience, knowledge and philosophies to help hockey coaches from all over the world. This should be a great experience for everyone involved,” Savard adds.

Denis Savard is one of the most electrifying players to ever step on the ice. Drafted 3 rd overall in 1980 by the Chicago Blackhawks, “Savy” went on to play in 1,196 games, tallying 1,338 points including a remarkable five 100+ point seasons. While most of his hall of fame career was spent with the Chicago Blackhawks, Savy spent some time with the Tampa Bay Lightning and Montreal Canadiens, winning a Stanley Cup with Montreal in 1993. Denis finished his career where he started and retired a Chicago Blackhawk in 1997. Denis is third all time in points for the Blackhawks trailing only the great Bobby Hull and Stan Mikita. His #18 hangs in the rafters of the United Center as it was retired by the Hawks in 1998, two years before he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Shortly after his playing career Denis pursued his passion for coaching and became an assistant coach with the Chicago Blackhawks in 1997. Denis spent over 10 years on the Chicago Blackhawks coaching staff and was named the team’s head coach in 2006. Savy spent two seasons at the helm and was crucial in the team’s turnaround and development of young players such as Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews.

Denis currently serves as an Ambassador for the Blackhawks where he works with community outreach initiatives and youth hockey programs. Denis also started the Denis Savard Foundation which makes significant contributions to various Chicagoland Charities including the Ronald McDonald House and USO of Illinois.
