Spartan Warm up Shooting Drill

Get Full Access

This is a warm up shooting drill that involves quick one-touch passing and shots from the outside lanes.  It can be a good one for pre-game warm ups or half-ice sessions.

To set up the drill divide the players into two lines at about the top of the circles along the wall.  Pucks should be in both lines.  Pne player will start the drill at the top of the circles by taking a couple of strides towards the net and taking a shot.  After the shot they follow the shot and stop at the crease before skating to the corner to receive a puck by the next player in the other line.  The first player passes it back to the next player in line, receives a pass back, and then makes another pass back to the player as they go to the net.  The drill then repeats in the same manner.

There are a couple of important things to emphasize in this drill.  First, quick one touch passes between the forwards.  Second, the player along the wall should explode off the wall.  Third, the shooter should receive the pass and get the shot off as quick as possible. Lastly, emphasize hitting the net and stopping at the crease for a rebound.
