Chip and Chase Angle Checking Drill

Get Full Access

This is a hockey checking and angling drill.  It is a skill that is often overlooked and should be worked on and taught.  P1 starts the drill by taking a few strides with the puck and transitioning backwards to make a pass to the second player in line.  P1 transitions forwards into the slot and receives a pass back from P2 for a quick shot on net.  After the shot P1 continues around the circle.  P2 chips the puck off the boards to P1 and then chases them down the ice.  P1 has to carry the puck around the far cone and their goal is to carry the puck into the offensive zone for a scoring chance.  P2 chases P1 and they have to go around the near cone and try to angle P1 into the boards before the blue line.  P2 has to at least match the speed of P1 and stay on the back shoulder to eliminate a cut back to the middle.  At the very least P2 needs to keep P1 to the outside and not allow a quality scoring chance.
