The Add-On Game is a competitive small area game that rewards teams for being first on the puck and good puck management.
Setup
- Game starts out 2 v 2 and players can "Add-On" players to their team by completing a past to the first player in line at the blue line.
- The player on the blue line cannot be added on unless they complete a pass back to a player already in the game.
- Coaches can require teams to make at least one shot attempt before they can "add-on" another player.
- When a team scores, go back to 2 v 2.
Coaching Points
- Players should compete hard to possess the puck first so they can add on a player before the other team does.
- Offensive team: support your teammates and jump to open space as an outlet.
- Defensive team: keep sticks on the ice to disrupt passes. Work to keep offensive team to the outside of the ice.
