2 - 1 - 2 Neutral Zone Forecheck by Capitals

Here is an example of a well executed forecheck in the neutral zone. In this version of a 2-1-2 neutral zone forecheck the two wingers pressure the defense, the strong side defense pressures the winger if the puck is passes to them along the wall, and the center covers for the strong side defense. The Washington Capitals do a great job and create a turnover in this clip.

What to Watch

  • F1 pressures the defense with the puck.
  • F2 pressures the other defense when the pass is made from D to D.
  • When the pass is made up the wall to the winger then the strong side D pressures to create the turnover.
  • Notice the center is covering for the strong side D just in case the puck gets through.
