Full Ice Overspeed Transitions

Get Full Access

This is another variation that cna be used with the other full ice overspeed skating drills. This time the players will start backwards and at the top of the circle they will transition forwards and skate forwards to the bottom of the other circle where they transition to backwards. The players they work on their backwards c-cuts all the way down to the opposite corner.

This can be a great tryout drill to evaluate players transition and backwards skating abilities. More advanced players can do the same drill with pucks.

Coaching Points

  • Stay low on the balls of your feet.
  • Open hips and bring heels together before pushing off to transition forwards.
  • When transitioning backwards try to keep chest sqaure to the end boards.
  • Do as few of cross-overs as possible before going into your c-cuts all the way down the ice.
